I adopted Petri in March of 2015 at the Southern Oregon Humane Society.  When I went to the shelter I was not planning on adopting a dog, but we instantly fell in love with each other.

Petri is a 10-year-old terrier mix who had never had a home until I adopted him. He entered a California shelter when he was less than 6 months old and bounced from shelter to shelter until I found him at the age of 8. When we met he was the only dog in the front office of the shelter. He was giving me the biggest, saddest puppy eyes, so I had to say hello. Within 5 minutes of meeting, I was adopting him.

Petri had no idea how to be a real dog. He didn't know how to play, be social, and just be a happy dog. He was not even remotely house trained, and that is an extremely hard task to teach an older dog. Within a few months of patience and persistence, Petri is the happiest, most social, and silly dog I know! We go to a local brewery in Medford, Oregon where he is a celebrity! He is a social butterfly at the brewery. Approaching every person and making sure to great everyone when they walk in.

My sweet Petri has taught me so much about patience and unconditional love. He is my faithful companion. I am so thankful that all these people in the shelters had looked out for him so we could find each other.

Senior dogs are the best dogs!
